Bears are the top predators of the areas they live in. With their massive size and strength, bears dominate other predators. Today, there are 8 species of bears: American black, Asia black, brown, panda, polar, sloth, spectacle, and sun. Most bears can climb trees because they live in forests. Brown and polar bears can not. They evolved to occupy areas without trees, and have lost that ability. Most bears are omnivorous, but the polar bear is not. Due to there being no vegetation on the High Arctic, the polar bear eats only meat.
